Caracas, Venezuela — It is less than two months since US special forces captured Venezuela’s longtime authoritarian leader Nicolas Maduro during a nighttime raid in Caracas, yet it is hard to overstate how different the South American country now feels.

카르카스, 베네수엘라 -미국 특수부대가 오랫동안 베네수엘라의 독재자였던 니콜라스 마두로를 카르카스에서 심야에 급습하여 체포한지 두달이 안되었지만 이 남미 국가에서 현재 느끼는 것이 얼마나 달라졌는지 아무리 과장해도 지나치지 않습니다.

There’s a new buzz, an optimism that, to be frank, I have never seen before.
솔직히 말하면 제가 지금까지 보지 못했던 낙관주의의 새로운 신바람이 불고 있습니다.

In the decade that followed, Venezuela saw it all: a quarter of the population fled a catastrophic economic collapse; crime rates exploded before gradually yielding in the aftermath of COVID-19; anti-Maduro demonstrators took to the streets year after year only to be overpowered by tear gas and rubber bullets.

Whirlwind day of diplomacy as US holds talks on Iran and Ukraine in Geneva

 

• Iran talks: While “progress was made” during today’s discussions in Geneva, the US expects to receive detailed proposals from the Iranian government in the next two weeks to address gaps between their positions, US officials said. Iran’s foreign minister said the two sides agreed on “guiding principles” for talks, but more work is needed.

이란 회담 : 오늘 제네바에서의 회담 동안 '진전이 있었' 지만 미국은 그들의 입장차이를 해결하기 위해  2주안에 이란 정부로부터 상세한 제안을 받기를 기대한다고 미국 관계자들이 말했습니다. 이란 외무장관은 양측이 회담을 위한 "가이드 원칙"에는 동의했지만 더 많은 작업이 필요하다고 말했습니다.

• Russia-Ukraine discussions: A US delegation — led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner — also joined talks in Geneva aimed at resolving Russia’s war in Ukraine. The talks focused on “practical issues,” according to Kyiv’s lead negotiator, and will continue tomorrow.

러시아-우크라이나 회담 : 스티브 위트코프 특사와 도널드 트럼프 대통령의 사위인 재러드 쿠슈너가 이끄는 미국 대표단도 역시 우크라이나에서의 러시아의 전쟁을 해결하는것을 목표로 제네바에서 회담에 참여했습니다. 우크라이나의 수석 협상가에 따르면 그들은 "실질적 문제"에 집중적으로 이야기했으며 내일 다시 이어갈 것이라고 합니다.

• Back in Washington: The Department of Homeland Security remains shut down amid a bitter policy fight over reforms to federal immigration enforcement. The White House rejected a Democratic counteroffer, an official said, with the two sides “pretty far apart” on any agreement.

다시 워싱턴 : 연방 이민 집행을 개혁하기 위한 격렬한 정책 싸움이 계속 중인 가운데 미 국무부는 여전히 셧다운 상태입니다. 백악관은 민주당의 수정안을 거절했으며 양측은 어떤 합의점에도 "꽤 멀리"있다고 공식 소식통이 말했습니다.
